' In Search of the Carlton Knight... '

"Wow - isn't he small..."

Children viewing the cartlon knight

As part of the Festival of British Archaeology, and with the staff of Bassetlaw Museum the Carlton Knight came home.

The knight, as you can see, is a tiny medieval figure of a solider on horseback and was found locally, and is the only one of its kind in England.

The staff of Bassetlaw Museum and members of Historical Solutions recreated for us the life and times of the Carlton Knight. We experienced life in 12th century Bassetlaw with a knight, his lady and members of their household.

Children and adults joined the Archaeological Detective Agency and played games to solve the mysteries of the past - and fun was had by all who attended.

Again we want to thank all the staff at the Bassetlaw Museum and the members of Historical Solutions for putting on an excellent, thought provoking display. Everyone who attended were very impressed with the passion and knowledge on display.

Even though my children are only 2 and 4 both of them had a lovely morning discovering something new out of something so old. Everyone from the women with the food [not sure my kids will be requesting rabbit some time soon ] to the security guard looking after the Cartlon Knight where very patient and helpful with my children. So thanks to everyone and the Centre for a lovely educational morning
